Quick Answer: Fogatti sells two unrelated tankless lines: InstaShower propane RV heaters and InstaGas non-condensing home heaters. For a house, the InstaGas Comfort CF170W (170,000 BTU, $669.99 at Home Depot) is the model to buy, and the 120,000 BTU Classic CS120 ($549.99) suits one bathroom in a warm climate. Fogattiās own 2024 catalog rates the 170 at 8.17 GPM at a 35°F rise, which is about 4.1 GPM in a northern winter. Fogattiās own warranty page lists 24 months for gas tankless heaters with labor excluded, compared with 10ā15 years of heat-exchanger coverage from Rinnai and Navien.

Most people who search āFogatti tankless water heaterā already know the name from an RV. Fogattiās InstaShower drop-in units are what we recommend for most campers in our best RV tankless water heater guide. Fogatti also sells a full line of home gas tankless heaters at Home Depot and Loweās, priced well below Rinnai, Rheem and Navien. This page covers both lines, what you give up for the lower price, and which buyers should go ahead anyway.

*Fogatti's 2024 catalog lists its 180,000 BTU outdoor unit as the "InstaGas Comfort 180S." Home Depot's current 180,000 BTU outdoor listing uses the "InstaGas Premium PM180SAW" name with the same input rating. We treat them as the same platform, but Fogatti doesn't publicly confirm the rename. The 70°F-rise column scales Fogatti's own 35°F figure in proportion to the rise; burner output is fixed, so flow falls as the rise grows. Retail listings round the 35°F figures down to 5.1, 7.5 and 8.1 GPM.
By the numbers
- 35°F temperature rise: the condition behind every flow figure in Fogattiās 2024 builder catalog (5.45 GPM for the Classic 120, 8.17 for the 170, 8.85 for the 180S). A 35°F rise means 85°F incoming water heated to 120°F, which is a southern-summer number. Source: Fogatti 2024 IBS catalog.
- 24 months: the warranty Fogattiās own warranty page lists for āTankless Hot Gas Water Heater,ā the same as its RV tankless units. Installation, removal and on-site repair labor are excluded. Source: fogatti.com warranty page.
- UEF above 0.81: Fogattiās catalog efficiency for every InstaGas model, which puts them in non-condensing territory. ENERGY STARās own UEF explainer uses 0.93 as an example of a certified gas tankless unit. Sources: Fogatti catalog; ENERGY STAR.
- 2.5 GPM: the federal maximum flow for a showerhead (Energy Policy Act of 1992). EPA WaterSense-labeled heads run 2.0 GPM or less. At a 70°F rise, the Classic CS120ās roughly 2.7 GPM covers one standard shower. Sources: DOE; EPA WaterSense.
Who Fogatti actually is
Fogatti Inc. is based in Elkhart, Indiana, the center of the US RV industry, and its own site calls it a ātrusted OEM supplier to leading RV brands.ā Its 2024 builder catalog describes the wider Fogatti Group as founded in 2003, selling in more than 50 countries, and the number-one water-heater exporter in China according to 2017 Chinese customs data (the companyās own claim).
Three details from that catalog matter if youāre shopping the brand:
- Mizudo is a sister badge. The catalogās Mizudo gas tankless pages list a āClassicā series (80,000ā199,000 BTU), the same Classic name Home Depot sells under the Fogatti badge, with the same 0.55ā0.66 GPM activation flow, UEF, oxygen-free copper heat exchanger and dimensions as the Fogatti-branded InstaGas Comfort pages. Zoro sells a MIZUDO-branded 170,000 BTU indoor heater under model FDG-CF170AW-NG, the same FDG-CF170 stem Home Depot uses for the Fogatti CF170W. If one badge is cheaper on the day, youāre probably looking at the same heater.
- Fogatti builds for other brands. Our Westinghouse tankless review found a retailer listing naming Fogatti as the maker of the Westinghouse Apolo electric line. Thatās the same pattern as Richmond units built by Rheem, just at the budget end of the market.
- The home line is non-condensing. Every InstaGas model is rated at a UEF above 0.81 (EF above 84% in Canada), with a copper heat exchanger and a 3/4-inch NPT gas inlet. Thatās the same efficiency class as Rinnaiās V-series, not the 0.93ā0.98 condensing units at the top of our best gas tankless water heater list.
1. Fogatti InstaGas Comfort CF170W: Best Fogatti for a Whole Home
Fogatti InstaGas Comfort CF170W Indoor Gas Tankless Water Heater (FDG-CF170W-NG / -LP)
- The largest indoor unit Fogatti sells through US home centers. It's 26.2 Ć 17.1 Ć 7.3 inches and weighs 40.8 lb according to Fogatti's catalog, about a third of the footprint of a 50-gallon tank.
- At a 70°F winter rise it delivers about 4.1 GPM, which covers two WaterSense showers at once, or one shower plus a kitchen tap. That's realistic for a two-bathroom home in most of the country.
- Natural gas needs at least 3.5 inches of water column supply pressure and propane at least 8.0 inches, per the catalog. A 170,000 BTU burner often outgrows the 1/2-inch line that fed an old tank, so check our gas line sizing guide before you price the job.
- Third-party listing copy says this unit isn't recommended above 2,000 feet. We found no altitude derating in anything Fogatti publishes, so if you live high, get it confirmed (see our high-altitude guide).
The CF170W is the Fogatti that best fits how most people use a tankless heater: one unit replacing a 40- or 50-gallon tank in a typical home. At $669.99 it costs well under half of what the condensing Rinnai Sensei RX199iN runs ($1,530ā$1,980 on our gas roundup). That gap narrows once you add the 24-month warranty and lower efficiency to the comparison (see the trade-offs section below).
2. Fogatti InstaGas Classic CS120 / CS120S: Best for One Bathroom in a Warm Climate
Fogatti InstaGas Classic CS120 (Indoor, 420IN-CS120-NG) and CS120S (Outdoor, 420OD-CS120S-NG)
- The cheapest way into a whole-home-style Fogatti. The outdoor CS120S also skips an indoor vent run entirely and lists for $50 less than the indoor version.
- In Florida, Texas or Southern California, groundwater stays warm enough that the 5.1ā5.45 GPM figure holds up for two fixtures. In a northern winter it falls to about 2.7 GPM, which is one shower, and a second fixture will cool it down.
- Compact: 22.76 Ć 14.57 Ć 7 inches and 25.6 lb indoors, per Fogatti's catalog. It runs on 120V for the fan and controls, not a 240V circuit.
- The nearest name-brand alternative on this site is Rinnai's non-condensing V53DeP (5.3 GPM, 120,000 BTU, about $700, 10-year heat exchanger, per our propane roundup). Fogatti saves you about $150 up front in exchange for a much shorter warranty.
If your winter inlet water is cold, size against the 70°F column, not the box. Our tankless sizing guide walks through the inlet-temperature math for your region.
3. Fogatti InstaGas Premium PM180SAW: Best Outdoor Fogatti
Fogatti InstaGas Premium PM180SAW Outdoor Gas Tankless Water Heater (FDG-PM180SAW-NG / -LP)
- Fogatti's highest-output unit at US home centers. Mounting outdoors means no vent pipe through the house and no indoor combustion air to plan for.
- The propane version lists for $96 less than the natural-gas version at Home Depot right now. That's the reverse of the usual pattern, so compare both if you can run either fuel.
- Outdoor tankless units rely on electric freeze protection. Fogatti's Lowe's listing copy tells owners to drain the unit if it could drop below about 37°F or will sit unused, so a hard-freeze climate needs a plan for outages (see our freeze-protection guide).
- The group's catalog also lists a 199,000 BTU "Classic 199" (on its Mizudo pages) rated at 9.40 GPM at a 35°F rise. We couldn't find it at a major US retailer, so it isn't ranked here.
For outdoor units from Rinnai, Rheem and Eccotemp side by side, see our best outdoor tankless water heater roundup.
4. Fogatti InstaShower 8 Plus and InstaShower Ultra: Best for RVs
Fogatti InstaShower 8 Plus / InstaShower Ultra RV Tankless Water Heaters
- The InstaShower 8 Plus is our overall pick in the RV tankless roundup. It drops into a standard 6-gallon tank opening and uses the rig's existing propane and 12V connections.
- Fogatti's own store currently lists the InstaShower 7 from $429.99, the 8 Pro (60,000 BTU, up to 3.1 GPM) at $569.99, and the 9 Pro (66,000 BTU, up to 3.6 GPM) from $599.99. That's five drop-in models across four burner sizes (42,000ā66,000 BTU).
- The 9 Pro and Ultra add a small mixing tank, which smooths the brief hot-cold swings an RV tankless heater can produce when you stop and restart the water (the "cold-water sandwich"). That's worth paying for if you take stop-start "navy" showers to save water.
The trade-offs behind Fogattiās lower price
| Model | Type | Input / flow | Heat exchanger warranty | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fogatti InstaGas Classic CS120 | Non-condensing | 120k BTU Ā· 5.1ā5.45 GPM | 24 months (Fogatti warranty page); retailers list 5 yr | $549.99 |
| Rinnai V53DeP | Non-condensing | 120k BTU Ā· 5.3 GPM | 10 years | About $700 |
| Fogatti InstaGas Comfort CF170W | Non-condensing | 170k BTU Ā· 7.5ā8.17 GPM | 24 months (Fogatti warranty page); retailers list 5 yr | $669.99 |
| Rheem Performance Platinum 9.5 | Condensing | 199k BTU Ā· 9.5 GPM | 12 years | About $1,150 |
| Rinnai Sensei RX199iN | Condensing | 199k BTU Ā· 11.1 GPM | 15 years | $1,530ā$1,980 |
Rinnai and Rheem rows come from our gas and propane roundups and our warranty comparison.
- Warranty: two answers to the same question. Home Depot and Loweās listings advertise ā5 years on heat exchanger and 2 years on other parts.ā Fogattiās own warranty page lists one 24-month period for āTankless Hot Gas Water Heater,ā excludes all installation and on-site repair labor, and requires registration to activate. Before you buy, ask Fogatti ([email protected] or 877-216-1818) which term applies to your serial number, and keep the reply.
- Venting: āreuse your old ventā needs checking. Fogattiās catalog says most tank heatersā āexhaust vent, water and gas pipeā can be reused, and Home Depot lists a 3-inch power vent. Pipe size isnāt the issue; vent category is. An atmospheric gas tank usually vents through Category I B-vent, while non-condensing tankless heaters push 300°F+ exhaust under positive pressure, which is why the major brands specify Category III stainless (see our venting guide). We couldnāt find Fogattiās residential installation manual online to see which category it lists, so have your installer confirm it before reusing a flue.
- Efficiency: no ENERGY STAR rebate. At a UEF above 0.81, the InstaGas units sit below the 0.93 example ENERGY STAR uses for a certified gas tankless heater. Utility rebates that require ENERGY STAR certification wonāt apply. See our UEF rating explainer for what the gap costs per year.
How to choose a Fogatti tankless water heater
- RV or camper with a 6- or 10-gallon tank opening: the InstaShower 8 Plus. Step up to the 9 Pro or Ultra for a fifth wheel or Class A with two people showering back to back.
- One bathroom, warm climate, tight budget: the InstaGas Classic CS120 indoors, or the CS120S outdoors for $50 less.
- Two bathrooms or a cold-winter climate: the InstaGas Comfort CF170W, the only Fogatti that keeps two showers running at a 70°F rise.
- No room inside, mild winters: the PM180SAW outdoor unit, and check the propane price first.
- Planning to stay 10+ years, or your installer wonāt warranty labor on an import: skip Fogatti and pay more for a Rinnai, Navien or Rheem with a 12ā15-year heat-exchanger warranty. Our best tankless water heater guide ranks those.
The bottom line
Fogatti is a budget tankless brand thatās very good at RVs and a reasonable bet for a home if you go in with clear expectations. For a house, the InstaGas Comfort CF170W ($669.99) is the pick: its 170,000 BTU burner is the only Fogatti home unit that holds two showers at a northern-winter 70°F rise, according to Fogattiās own catalog figures. The Classic CS120 ($549.99) suits a single bathroom in the South. Before buying either, settle two things: which warranty term applies (Fogatti publishes 24 months; retailers advertise 5 years on the heat exchanger) and which vent category the installation manual requires. For an RV, the InstaShower 8 Plus remains our top drop-in pick.
